Homeless Shelter Stories Volunteer Stephen
Stephen has been an amazing volunteer at the Lighthouse Mission, putting in the hours to help those in need. We asked him a few questions about volunteering at Lighthouse Mission’s Base Camp in Bellingham, Wa to learn a little about his experience. Here’s what he had to say:
What does volunteering at LMM mean to you?
The guests at Base Camp have done more for me than I have done for them. This is where I learn as much about myself as I learn about homelessness.
What keeps you coming back to volunteer at LMM?
I love the people, and I love the different perspective I get on my life and theirs.
Why should others look into volunteering at LMM?
I originally stopped in to learn the real story about the homeless crisis in Bellingham. The mess that neighbors were arguing about. The subject of rumors, conspiracy theories, and politics. Once I got an accurate picture of the problems, I realized how very fortunate we are to have the Lighthouse Mission in our community. For over a century, the compassionate professional staff have been turning lives around. One thing gives me enduring hope: These people know what they’re doing. If you have the conviction to help change lives, these are the people you want to work with.
Thanks, Stephen! Let’s all give him a virtual round of applause! Volunteering is a rewarding experience that not only helps those in need but also enriches your own life in countless ways. The Lighthouse Mission Ministries offers a unique opportunity to make a real difference in your community.
