Lighthouse Mission Cold Weather response helps homeless

Lighthouse Mission Cold Weather response helps homeless. We are providing food and shelter in Bellingham to keep safe many who are homeless, as wind-chill temperatures drop below 20 degrees this week. Those who are homeless, who need a helping hand, are coming to the Mission for a much needed helping hand.

The Lighthouse Mission overflow shelter can host up to 40 people in addition to 200 beds at the Base Camp emergency shelter. The overflow shelter, run by volunteers from Christ the King Church, started last December and continues through the end of February.

Our Beds Will Be Overflowing

All shelter beds will likely be filled over the next several nights, according to Hans Erchinger-Davis, President & CEO at the Lighthouse Mission. “Frostbite and hypothermia are dangers that people on the streets face when the weather is so cold,” Erchinger-Davis said. “We ask our community to pray, volunteer and donate to support these hurting people.”

We asking for local businesses to lend a hand, for companies to donate, for corporations to think about the community in times like these. We are asking for the city to think of those that are abandoned in the cold and just need a warm spot to rest and a warm meal. These interventions don’t happen without important partnerships with the city’s businesses stepping up. So please consider making a difference in the life of a family in serious need today through a corporate donation directly targeting the most at risk of our city.

Erchinger-Davis said that people can come warm up inside Base Camp during the day, even when Base Camp is full at night. Base Camp is located at 1530 Cornwall Ave. in Bellingham.

Give now to support Light House Ministry. A monthly donation will keep a bed open for someone in need.
