Road2Home staff now caring for residents at Bellingham Isolation and Quarantine Facility

Men building homes to fight homelessness in the bellingham community. Lighthouse Mission Ministries has completed its contract supporting Whatcom County’s COVID-19 Isolation and Quarantine Facility (IQF), and local nonprofit agency Road2Home is taking on the contract starting this month. Services will continue at the IQF.

Lighthouse Mission is partnering to fill the need in the community to figh homelessness.

We have recently announced that plans are in the works to remodel the Lighthouse Mission campus, including demolition and building of a new facility. You can read more here. We created this FAQ to help answer any questions in the community that arise because of this future project. We are incredibly grateful for this community’s support and care of our neighbors who are homeless.

Homelessness: The Reality

You’re invisible, victimized, marginalized, people hide their kids from you, and it chips away at your heart. You’re dealing with a mixture of adverse childhood experiences, lack of education and job skills, wage disparity, serious behavioral and physical health concerns, alcohol and drug and cannabis addiction, human trafficking, mental illness, family dysfunction, young people aging out of the foster care system, lack of affordable housing, and so much more. Layer on COVID-19, with its reduction of services and additional job losses, stress, and isolation, and you have a recipe for disaster where the poor suffer most.

Supporting Downtown Businesses through Good Neighbor Project

Lighthouse Mission Ministries recently launched an effort to support businesses and residents near its new Base Camp location in downtown Bellingham.

Base Camp continues to shelter people experiencing homelessness during the COVID-19 pandemic. On July 17, it moved to the Bellingham Public Market building at 1530 Cornwall Ave. Base Camp will operate there for 3-4 years while a new permanent location is developed.
