Lighthouse Mission Ministries moved today its Base Camp (formerly the Drop-In Center) for sheltering people experiencing homelessness during the COVID-19 pandemic to 1530 Cornwall Ave. in downtown Bellingham, where it will operate for 3-4 years while a permanent location is selected and developed.

After three months at Bellingham High School, the Mission’s Base Camp, formerly known as the Drop-In Center, needs to move again as the high school prepares to reopen for students. It has become increasingly clear that Base Camp will not be able to return to its original location for the foreseeable future.

Whatcom Unified Command (WUC) invited Lighthouse Mission Ministries to help staff their COVID-19 Isolation and Quarantine Housing on Byron Avenue in Bellingham: Lighthouse Mission Ministries wholeheartedly agreed.

This facility is for anyone in the community who doesn’t have a safe place to self-isolate or cannot be in quarantine at their home.

Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Week

Each year, Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Week is sponsored by the National Coalition for the Homeless to promote awareness, education, and action surrounding hunger and homelessness the week.

A lot goes on here at the Mission! In the past year, we’ve been able to serve 350 nutritious meals per day, shelter well over 300 people at night, and arrange 1,050 medical care visits in collaboration with SeaMar. This is what God’s care looks like through you, our partners here at the Lighthouse Mission!

Drop-In Center Restroom & Shelter Expansion

Your generous cash and online donation of this project will allow us to increase the number of people we can shelter at the Drop-In Center by adding six beds, as well as increase restroom accessibility, eliminate the reliance on portable toilets, and ensure these restrooms will serve many people for years to come.

These are our most vulnerable guests and we want to do whatever we can to give them dignity and a warm place to stay.

No One Should Go Hungry on Thanksgiving

Imagine you’re walking along Holly Street in downtown Bellingham.  Shivering doesn’t even help to warm you anymore, you’ve been outside so long.  You haven’t eaten in two days.  Your feet seem to get heavier with each step.  You just wish someone would notice.  But you feel invisible.

This was Jim’s reality: “Being on the streets, I was very hungry.  I felt bad, my stomach really hurt and a lot of the time I couldn’t sleep because of it.  I prayed every night that things would change.”
