I believe God brought me here. Lighthouse Mission regularly witnesses God working on the frontlines of our city as we watch Him move on the behalf of our most vulnerable. Sharing stories of God’s work is one of our favorite things to do here at the Mission – to tell of God’s good work and the people he has saved. Aleta is just a story of hope. Aleta grew up having a strong faith. But when a custody battle over her son didn’t go the way she had hoped and prayed, it shook her to the core.
From homeless to Hope-filled
“In that moment, my faith just completely broke,” she said. “I started drinking more and more to sleep at night, which became full-blown alcoholism . . . and you know, alcoholism leads to losing everything,” she said. “And so I lost my job, my car broke down, and then I lost my apartment.”
Aleta moved out of Base Camp with a man who seemed safe. They lived outside in the woods. Unfortunately, that situation turned violent, so she applied to stay at the Mission’s Agape Home for Women and Children. What a difference your support made in Aleta’s life! At Agape Home, Aleta found safety, experienced sobriety, and rediscovered her faith.
“I believe God brought me here,” she said.
One day, while watching a video sermon, Aleta felt a tug on her heart to get baptized —seemingly out of nowhere. A minute later, the pastor in the video started talking about baptism. Aleta thought, This is lining up too perfectly for me to not do what God just put on my heart.
Baptism and big dreams for Aleta — thanks to YOU!
“Since getting baptized and rekindling my relationship with God, my whole life has changed,” shared Aleta. She recently got a job. She’s been able to save money. And most importantly, she is able to spend time with her son each week!
“Now I have to dream bigger,” she said with a laugh. “The Lighthouse Mission has changed my life,” she says. “Had this place not been here, I don’t think I would have survived in the woods.”
