Letter to A Donor

Dear Lighthouse Mission donor,

I am writing to express my deep gratitude for the countless ways the Mission and the Agape Home have supported me at the most broken and vulnerable time in my life. More than support, they provided me with the guidance to return to the church wholeheartedly and find a stable path forward in rebuilding my life.

I was in a highly abusive marriage which was just another chapter of abuse in my life, beginning in childhood. After seeking treatment for PTSD and depression, I left my husband. My ex-husband had been working with an expensive attorney and I had none so I ended up alone, with nothing to my name. I sought out a domestic violence shelter for help and over time I ended up at DVSAS in Bellingham. I finally felt like I was home and could make a life here. I got to move in the Agape home a year ago and it has changed my life. I was baptized last Easter, I teach an art class to the other Agape guests, I’m sewing and selling my own bags, and through the amazing Agape staff and especially the Agape manager,  Mary McDonnell,  I have strengthened my self-image and healed much of my past trauma that had previously impeded progress in my life.

The Agape Home has saved my life and helped me find purpose in life. It’s all possible through faith in Jesus as my Savior. If not for the Mission I would still be stuck in depression without any hope for my future. I share these things to let you know how much of an impact your generosity has, not just for me, but for hundreds of other people going through difficult, traumatic times in life.

Thank you so much for helping make healing and hope through the Lighthouse Mission possible.

Sincerely & God Bless,

Shawn Martin
