Safe haven in their darkest hour

Julia’s journey from Hawaii to Washington State was supposed to be a fresh start for her family.

However, life had other plans for Julia as she encountered unexpected health problems. While her husband and daughter moved ahead to Bellingham, WA, she found herself confined to a hospital bed as she recovered.

Finding housing in Bellingham proved challenging. When Julia learned her family was homeless, the stress was unbearable. She had battled addiction and experienced homelessness in the past and knew the dangers involved with the situation.

A safe place and a community—thanks to YOU!

Fortunately, Julia’s family found refuge at the Lighthouse Mission, where the staff and volunteers provided them with shelter, food, and safety.

“When I heard how they were being cared for so lovingly, I felt much better,” said Julia.

With the Mission’s support and help from local partners, Julia’s husband and daughter eventually found an apartment and they settled in.

Once Julia arrived in Bellingham, she was able to hit the ground running. Grateful to God for her health and for seven years of sobriety, she pursued a business administration degree.

Your giving inspired Julia to give back

“I also wanted to find a way to give back to the Lighthouse Mission, so I decided to volunteer,” Julia said. She began working at the Agape front desk and even interned there to fulfill college course requirements.

Today, Julia is filled with gratitude for the way the Lighthouse Mission provided them with a safe place
and a community that embraced them during their darkest hour.
