That works out to be almost 150,000 meals served in a year.
Each meal we serve is prepared by staff and volunteers who care deeply for the people they are feeding. Every year, we bring these people together to serve two large meals, once for Thanksgiving and once for Christmas. We put together these holiday meals for those who have nowhere to go, helping them feel the warmth of a family dinner and holiday traditions. The holidays can be difficult for people who are homeless, we want to bring them into a comfortable and festive environment with great food!
What does a nutritious Thanksgiving Dinner served with love mean to our guests?
One guest, Matt, said, “The meal told me that I wasn’t just another face; it made me feel important again.” Amanda, another guest at Thanksgiving said, “On the streets, you have to find food for yourself, you don’t have any other option. At the Mission, I love that someone else prepared the food and did the dishes. I was cared for by someone who doesn’t know me, and has no reason to care.”
For people like Matt and Amanda who often don’t know where the next meal will come from, a Thanksgiving meal offered with compassion, and without judgment, can be the first step toward a fresh start and a new life.
We’ll be hosting our Thanksgiving Meal on Friday, November 28th at the Church of the Assumption Gymnasium from 12 – 2 PM.
We’re expecting to serve over 500 people for that meal alone! With the help of over 100 volunteers, we will be able to serve meals to our guests as if they were in a restaurant, allowing them to take off their backpack, set down their bags, relax, and enjoy their meal. Everyone is invited and no fees are charged for services. Clothing and other items will also be distributed throughout the meal.
One meal costs just $2.05, you can help today by donating here.
