Street Connect is Lighthouse Mission’s newest program that is designed to reach out to people who are chronically homeless. Volunteers get to reach out, build trust, deepen relationships, and show our neighbors who are homeless that we care about them. We are grateful to Northwest Chevrolet who donated the van and covered the expense of designing and wrapping it!
A Mission staff member leads teams of 6-12 volunteers to key areas around the greater Bellingham area four evenings a week. This could include you! The Street Connect team will talk and pray with people who are homeless and hand out needed items, such as socks, sandwiches, water bottles, blankets, toiletries, etc. Check out the Needs List for items you could donate to help those who are homeless and without shelter.
A two-stall shower trailer will soon be added to Lighthouse Mission’s outreach programs, giving people who are homeless access to warm showers. The trailer will have two separate units, each with a shower, toilet, and sink. Access to warm showers and restrooms is essential to a person’s dignity. The Shower Connect trailer will be at the Mission once a week, and will be operating in partnership with churches two to three times a week beginning in December.
