Each year, Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Week is sponsored by the National Coalition for the Homeless to promote awareness, education, and action surrounding hunger and homelessness the week.
A lot goes on here at the Mission! In the past year, we’ve been able to serve 350 nutritious meals per day, shelter well over 300 people at night, and arrange 1,050 medical care visits in collaboration with SeaMar. This is what God’s care looks like through you, our partners here at the Lighthouse Mission!
It is always wonderful to hear from our Executive Director as he shares with us the latest news regarding the impact and outreach of the mission as it impacts lives throughout the community. It’s refreshing to hear how the Christian community is coming together through gifts, and donations, for the single purpose of impacting lives for Christ. Let’s hear from Hans Erchinger-Davis.
Street Connect volunteers spotted a gentleman walking down Northwest Avenue who looked lost. They quickly pulled over to offer him some supplies and asked if there was anything else they could do for him. They discovered he had just become homeless that day and had no clue what he was going to do. After praying with him, he decided to go his own way for the night.

Daikson grew up in a good family and went to church every Sunday. But in his teenage years, he tasted alcohol for the first time: “For some reason I got hooked. I had been really rebellious. My faith was not really there because I wasn’t focusing on it or working on it.”
But through your engagement by donating to Lighthouse Mission, you can help many that are like Daikson. Save a life today – read how you helped Daikson.
Winter is harsh for those who are homeless. The cold, the dirt, the loneliness – and the holidays, all lead towards a desperate need. The Lighthouse Mission, throughout the holiday season, sees stories like these time and time again and we need your support as we work to ensure the welfare of many who are in need during this Christmas and colder holiday times. Are you looking to partner with a trusted Christian philanthropic organization, we would covet your partnership with us.
Chris is sitting outside alone on a milk crate. Water droplets from the edge of his tent form a small puddle in frosted moss. There’s a camp stove and an old bike next to him. “It’s Christmas!”

The Lighthouse Mission provides bedrock support for the county and the individuals of the Bellingham area as we provide well over 300 beds to individuals in need.
Imagine you’re walking along Holly Street in downtown Bellingham. Shivering doesn’t even help to warm you anymore, you’ve been outside so long. You haven’t eaten in two days. Your feet seem to get heavier with each step. You just wish someone would notice. But you feel invisible.
This was Jim’s reality: “Being on the streets, I was very hungry. I felt bad, my stomach really hurt and a lot of the time I couldn’t sleep because of it. I prayed every night that things would change.”
There was recently a beautiful, tender, and powerfully redemptive experience that I had the honor of witnessing.
About a month ago, one of our newer program men came to me with great sadness, anxiety, and guilt over being separated from his two young grandchildren due to circumstances both under and outside of his control.
Lighthouse Mission loves to see volunteers working to transform lives from the inside out through their service. Time and again, we watch as the community is impacted for the better, but so too is the volunteer. God works miracles in many people’s lives, and we are amazed every single time.
My volunteer journey began when I found myself out of work and feeling sorry for myself. I saw this quote that said, “When you are feeling small, do something for somebody else.”
